02 · Why Ben Lacy

Shaped by all sides of the courtroom.

Ben has seen the courts from the prosecutor’s table and from the seat beside the survivor. He has practiced in this district, lives in this district, and grew up in this district. That full picture is what he’ll bring to the bench.

01 · Experience

A decade on both sides of the table.

Ben began his legal career at the Washington County Attorney’s Office — first as a law clerk, then as a criminal prosecutor, with a clerkship for the Honorable B. William Ekstrum in between.

For the past six years he has served metro-area survivors of domestic violence at Tubman, where he is now Managing Attorney. He earned his JD cum laude from Mitchell Hamline with a certificate in advocacy and problem solving, and an MBA alongside it.

02 · Roots

Stillwater, then and now.

Ben grew up in Stillwater, graduated from Stillwater Area High School, and earned his Eagle Scout rank with a project at Stonebridge Elementary.

He lives in Stillwater with his wife and two children, in the same community whose courthouse he’s asking to serve.

03 · Character

Keep the humanity in the system.

Past president of the Washington County Bar Association. Volunteer with Washington County Community Circles and local legal clinics. Before law school, an executive with the Boy Scouts of America, leading thousands of volunteers at the National Capital Area Council.

Across every chapter, the same throughline: a temperament that listens, a respect for process, and a belief that every person who walks into a courtroom deserves to be treated like a human being, not a case number.

In his own words
Systems by their very nature are hard to keep the humanity in. I want to help keep the humanity in our community when elected as judge.

On the bench

“It’s easy for a judge to get lost in the shuffle of cases. I won’t. Behind every case number are real people who deserve compassion, safety, and a clear reason for the decision. Not just for those who prevail, but for those who don’t. I’ll always give that reasoning when the law allows.”
